I wouldnt feed one to the turtles that was near anywhere where you applied any chemicals just to be safe.

I've read on a website that the safest way to feed live things to your turtle and avoid getting him/her sick is to keep them in a salt water solution for a few minutes, then rinse it and feed it to the turtle.

Yes, they're good as part of the diet. If your RES is really small, and the worm is big, it's good to cut the worm into smaller pieces.
