When those were removed, he went after the cork basking area.
I think your turtle isn't comfortable with having new stuff put in the tank. Hurricane is a biter, but eventually gets tired of it. Sometimes I do think RES bite things to feel them, kind of like what sharks do, to see if it is edible or something else entirely. But they definitely go overboard in captivity.
The only way I know how to solve that, is to keep putting stuff in the tank, usually after tank cleanings.
