I was looking around the house for possible snacks and other foods to try for my 2 RES.. they love their pellets and krill/shrimp snacks.. but want to introduce a variety of foods to them. Don't need picky eaters

I was wondering if toasted seaweed sheets (the ones used to make sushi rolls with) would be healthy and ok to try?

Ingredients say : Seaweed/Algues Sechees

I don't know about seaweed but have you read the what to feed and what not to feed sticky's? They have lots of ideas to give your little one.

I read the sticky's && it doesn't have seaweed on either the do or don't list..

I have a lot of treats, just trying to see what else I can add to bring variety to their diet.

I think the seaweed we eat for sushi rolls contains too much Sodium for turtles.
Therefore not a good snack for turtles. But I can be wrong. I don't feed my
turtles seaweed though.

I would have to agree with Kemul (I find I do that ALOT btw )

Nori or any kind of dried/toasted seaweed sheets does contain a lot of sodium, because it's from salt water. I'd say it'd be too much for turtles as well.

But someone at a pet store just suggested seaweed when I inquired about plants. He meant from a local produce store in Chinatown, though.

A plant for her to gnaw on while I am away would be great (3 nighs). The woman at my local aquarium said the automatic feeder is $20 the other day, now it's $30!

I think that's why I prefer online stores.

Better not risk the seaweed

I think there is some confussion on the amount of sodium in plain toasted seaweed (nori). I feed nori to my fish and my slider daily. The slider will go for the nori first then his regular food. The brand of nori I buy from the asian market is plain unflavored and toasted. The serving size is two sheets that are 7"x"8 with a sodium content of 10mg for both sheets, so 5mg per sheet. To put that into perspective there is 5mg of sodium in 10 grams of fresh vegetables. 10grams is about 2 quarter sized brocolli crowns. Now keep in mind you wouldnt feed a whole 7x8 sheet to your turtle so now the sodium is even lower. I feed about 1eighth of a sheet to my small slider thats.62mg of sodium once a day. Within the first week I saw an increase in activity and appetite I think my slider is healthier getting the nori.
