How often do you think I should be feeding my 9 yr. old full grown RES
turtle pellets? She seems to be soooo famished when I feed her a small
scoop every other day. Is this too much, or not enough? In the winter
she doesnt eat much, but this time of year, she acts like she is sooooo
hungry. am I doing the right thing?

Are you feeding anything else? Veggies, plants, etc?

They all act like that. I'm sure if they could speak they'd swear they were starving. Worse than kids lol

No, nothing else. Just the pellets. I put about 1/2 dozen goldfish in there for her every few weeks, and she gets those. What other foods do you recommend, or am I feeding her enough pellets?

Check out the 'what to feed' and 'what not to feed' lists in this section of the site. A varied diet is important. On days that I dont offer pellets, I offer red leaf or romaine lettuce, dandelion greens, and occasionally fruit

You can offer some type of plant matter even on the days you give pellets.

You can feed her the amount of pellets that would fit inside her head every second day.
Like Jen and Marisa said, you can give her various veg on the non-pellet days.
And don't give in to that begging! ;)

I think I said she could have some veggies/plant matter even on the days she gets pellets. :D

Ah! Sorry Marisa! That's what I get for just skimming the replies
Yup, veggies are a good thing! I'm just lazy and give mine veggies on the off-days, instead of preparing veggies every day :P

An adult turtle can eat every other day, or three times a week, depending on what you are feeding her. Pellets shouldn't be the only food, she needs natural foods, like the veggies, too.
