turtles don't really have a "hungy" look
I assume you mean that your turtle is always swimming toward you and looks as if she is begging for food

most red ear slider turtles do that, so don't give in to feeding your turtle all the time. you don't need to feed your turtle twice a day. Once a day of enough pellets to fill her head, that's it. try to mix in some lettuce too.

You could give about that portion once instead of twice, and if your RES is a year old, give the pellets every other day. You can, however, give some type of plant matter daily. Look at the info on what's good to feed. Vary the diet with other types of foods as well and add something like cuttlebone for extra calcium.

On the diet your turtle has been on, what does the shell look like? How big is your RES (shell length not including the curve of the shell)?

I occasionally feed my turtles twice a day if they act hungry.

Every turtle has a different personality. When mine are hungry, they run around like crazy and dig without stopping. When they beg, they just run to the side of the tank and stare at me. (The reason I know it's hungry behavior too is because the female will also run to me, and all she likes about me is that I'm the bringer of food. If she wants nothing to with me, she'll hide).

It's a natural instinct for them to beg for food. Begging doesn't mean they need food, and over feeding them ill cause obesity and it will also make their stomach pop internally, which will obviously kill them.

To be on the safe side, until you know their personalities really well, only feed them once a day.

After they get bigger than four inches, you should feed them once a day every other day.
