It's a calcium rich dietary supplement. Very useful for turtles, birds and chinchillas. Oh and hermit crabs too, I think.

At some times, taking off the backing was really easy, but in some places, I would have to remove a pretty good chunk of bone with it.

it is MUCH cheaper in the bird section..for a bigger piece. I havent seen any that already has the back peeled off (its a pain!)

I have a couple of hatchling turtles not much more than a couple months old and I put somewhat small pieces of cuttlebone in the tank with them and I haven't seen them interact with it much. I check it to see if theres any bites but they're so small its hard to tell. They really don't seem interested. :(

very helpful thread. I didnt even know about this stuff, i noticed Kaya trying to chomp on her wood basking dock and the rocks and seashells and stuff in her tank (all way to big for her to fit in her mouth but she tries anyway lol). I guess she was just trying to tell me she needed some cuttlebone, i got her some and no more chomping!

@valladin82 - try soaking the pieces of cuttle bone in tuna water (water from canned tuna).
