Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

We have 2 RES in a 55 gallon tank - everything is set up the way its suppose to be - the problem is one RES eats very aggressively and the other just watches him/her eat - we tried seperating them but the mild one still doesn't want to eat. We seperated them initially because we saw the aggressive one actually pull the other one away from the food so he could get to it. Any suggestions?

Your best bet is to separate them for feeding, take out the more aggressive one and put him somewhere else and feed the shy one in the tank. Give it a few days before abandoning it, the shy one may not eat right away. I have a similar situation with my cats and it took a few weeks of training for it to stop. Considering there is already food aggression, you may want to separate them before real aggression starts up and one gets killed.

ya me too. when i had my 2 res together the smaller one use to grab food before the female and they always get picky. the female starts to dig around finding nothing since their's no gravel or anthing
im a true slacker but when it comes to family, my slacking mood becomes a black force 24/7

pets: 2 red eared sliders
small fry (male) and kitty nails (female)

thanks for the input - we will try to seperate them again for a few days to see if the mild one starts to eat, and go from there

it's weird to see such a drastic difference in eating behaviors since they are about the same size
