Feeding and Nutrition :: Is this a healthy diet?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I have read the site, etc, etc...just looking for some opinions.

My RES is about 2.2in SCL and he's approximately five, maybe six months old.

Every morning I give him 3 Reptomin pellets and when I come home from work I give him some chopped lettuce or collards which he loves.

Every now and then, I would estimate about one a week, I give my turtle a treat such as baby shrimp or baby krill. This is usually in addition to the turtles daily diet ( 3 pellets, greens ) and I only feed him 1 as a treat.

Sometimes he gets to snack on Rosie Reds but he actually more often than not lets them live in his tank...they have to be injured/dying for my turtle to really take after them.

He eats regularly and doesn't seem unhealthy...normal droppings and so on, but I was just hoping for some additional input! Thanks.

Sounds good to me. As far as the pellets go they say to feed them as much as would fit inside his head so without seeing him and pellets I can't say for sure.

He's still a baby, not even a yearling, so his head isn't that big. I estimate personally that he could fit about four in his head total but I prefer to keep him regulated to three for now.

Sounds fine. As long as the shrimp/krill aren't too big, once per week is probably okay. You can possibly up the Reptomin to 4 per day and remember to not overdo it on the veggies.

Just curious, how much veggies do you think would be good for him? I had heard from numerous members here that they can chow down on as many greens as they want.

Just put in about 2 leaves. My turtles love veggies but if you put to much in they won't eat it and it will dirty up the tank
