i tried putting tuna juice over lettuce...but they still won't touch the lettuce...
do i need to soak the lettuce for a little while or something?

and i can't get them to eat outside of their tank in a bucket of water...
is there anything i can do to help that?

Mix up their veggie diet some. Some days give them some carrot peel, or some blueberries, some steamed sweet potato, fresh basil, tomato. They like variety and it's good for them. You can try putting some water plants in the tank - for instance most turtles like to nibble on (and tear up) anacharis.

Little turtles aren't as fond of veggies as the grown-ups but it's still good for them. You may have to keep offering veggies for awhile with little result but eventually they will catch on.

Try different lettuces too. When I first tried to give my turtle lettuce, it was some romaine heart, he wouldn't touch it, still won't. But as soon as I bought the full romaine head and tried the really dark leaves, he loves them. As a result, I tried red and green leaf lettuce and he loves those too. So, try different leaves to see if you get a response. I'd like to say it was me that got him to eat the lettuce, but just one day, he started eating it and hasn't looked back. And carrots are a good starter veggie.

You can marinate the lettuce in the juice. Leave it in the juice overnight.
