Why is sugar so bad for your turtle. Makes them fat? Hyper? Diabetes?

Sugar is high in carbs & can make your turtle fat. If they are too fat, they can't breathe properly because the fat fills up the body cavity inside the shell which pushes on the lungs.
Once they get fat, it is very hard for them to lose this weight.

Too much sugar encourages yeast infections.

Sometimes it's hard to remember that even some fresh fruit and vegetables contain sugar. For example, carrots and strawberries are sweet and contain sugar, so while it's very good to feed some of them to your turtles, you shouldn't feed them too much.
