Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

every place i read it says that veggies are good to be fed everyday, where as pellets are to be fed every other day. i my self do this, but my turtles will eat ALL of their veggies pretty fast. im taking care of 2 res's at about 4 inches a peice and ill leave 2 palm sized peices of lettuce in the tank hanging from a suction cup clamp. they will finish them to the tips of the clamp by night time... every day i end up putting more and more from the previous day because they seem to like it and eat it more of it every time.

so finally, my question is....

CAN YOU OVER FEED ON GOOD FOOD?!

It's pretty tough to overfeed on veggies. If your turtles start getting really loose gross poop you might want to cut back a bit, but you don't have to worry about overfeeding on vegetables like you do with pellets.

Too much of anything isn't good, even if the food itself is healthy. If it takes them all day to eat the lettuce, then that's good---my RES will chow down on the amount I give him in half and hour on some days. That's prety much all he gets until the next day.

Yeah, Mikey will eat all of his veggies within an hour, but I've been giving him pellets in the morning and veggies in the evening. I've read that people give their full sized turtles maybe 2 whole leaves of lettuce a day, so a palm sized piece each or even a little more should be okay until they get bigger. And if they are happily eating them, consider giving them smaller portions twice a day, to space out the food intake.
