Well we've had Scratch for two weeks now, and have finally gotten him/her out of his/her "hatchling" shyness. Yay! So, I figured with Scratch settled in to his/her new home and the shyness out of the way, I'd start working on the veggie situation. I went to the store and picked up a carrot, dandelion greens, and a bag of Spring Mix salad, which is a mixture of Red Leaf Lettuce, Romane lettuce, Radish Leaves, and Spinach ( it's what the Hubbs and I eat pretty much everynight with dinner) I didn't know if Scratch would "take" to veggies, so I figured, hey atleast this way WE'LL eat it!

I sliced off a little sliver of carrot and walked over to Scratch's tank. Holding my breath as he/she was swimming up to the frount like he/she does every morning when I feed him/her. That little piece of carrot didn't even stand a chance, no....it barely touched the water and CRUNCH! ! !

Here I was ready to wait hours (or even weeks) to see Scratch eat his/her yummy veggies, and it barely took half a second! I guess I had over prepaired myself for defeat, built up the suspence....something lol. The Hubs was watching, peeking around the corner, with the camra going, capturing the shock on my face, and the very first time I fed Scratch by hand.... yes not only was it Scratch's first veggie, it was my first time feeding a turtle! Wait, it wasn't just any turtle....no...it was MY turtle. WOOHOO!

So, after we got over the excitment ( I know, we're lame little newbbies) The Hubs wanted a go with some lettuce. Scratch did the same thing. Not only did he/she bite at the lettuce right away, but he/she ate it from The Hub's fingers, the lettuce was gone by eight that night when the lights turned off for bed.....we're so proud!

So now we're starting off the day with pelletes, and about three hours later a piece of lettuce ( the size of my little palm) will be in the tank to munch along with his/her cuttlebone, which is always in the tank! We're going to change what we put in there everyday, red leaf one day, romain the next...a sliver of carrot once a week.... bleh bleh bleh.
