Has anyone ever seen/heard of these? They were a special or something at the local Petco recently...said it was slow growing and provided beneficial water quality effects. Can this be eaten by a turtle?

I have a couple in my planted tank, they are cool looking and help a lot with algae growth. They are basically just big balls of algae, so i can't imagine they would harm your turt if he ate them, but it would be a bit of a waste of money.
