so im planning on buying about 2 mature female guppies, and 1 mature male and putting them in my tank with 2 RES's. i was just wondering....

once the guppies start to mate and give birth, will my RES's know how much to eat or will just just go crazy and eat them all?? if this cycle of life of birth and death with the guppies continue, do i still need to feed my RES's regular turtles pellets?

Your RES will probably just eat the pregnant guppies and then you're out guppies. Some people are able to keep fish around for awhile, and I suppose after the novelty wears off, the turtle will regulate his appetite, but you need to provide *lots* of hiding places for the fish and their babies, lots of plants and caves and whatnot. Most people if they are planning on breeding fish keep separate tanks. And if he's eaten a fish, you don't need to feed pellets that day or a couple days depending on the fish size. I'd recommend a separate breeding tank, though.

so the RES will eat the older, more mature guppies and not the fry? and they should only be fed these every other day?

Fish should only be a treat, they shouldn't be part of the main diet. Feeding them about once a month is a good guideline. You can opt not to feed pellets on the day you give feeder fish.

I have 2 baby res and i bought them guppies about a month ago. They ate 8 of 10 guppies and the 2 that were left wound up having 12 baby guppies. Now my 2 turtles eat the babies if they can catch them. I really don't think turtles discriminate when they are hungry.
