Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I'm just curious as to whether my baby turtles' excrements are normal or not. It seems to me (I havent actually timed it) that they are excreting faster and faster after each time they eat. Almost as if the food is flying through and not being digested. I give them just pellets. They're red, so the feces have a clear outer layer with red mushed up pellets inside. I've had them for almost 3 months now... but never really though about it til now.

Well, the color of the poop can vary depending on what they eat. I have seen the following types of poop from my turtle:

olive brown logs - Reptomin pellets
flaky olive-brown pieces - romaine lettuce
pinkish-white logs - salmon
dark brown, almost black - blueberries

What brand of pellets are you feeding them? I hate to make you post a picture, but that may help us understand what's going on better too. ;)

Yeah, the color changed dramatically when I switched pellet brands, from brownish to greenish. I'm sure there's nasty artificial color in most pellets, which is what you're seeing. And they typically like to go potty after mealtime. You say you only give them pellets, you need to start them on some veggies, to get them in good habits for later and to help with the poo situation.

Thanks for the replies. What kind of veggies can I give to baby turtles? I've tried to give them tiny little chunks of carrots but they dont seem to want them...

My pellets are Sera brand - Raffy Baby Gran? No idea what that means... I'll see if I can post up some poop pictures soon
