Feeding and Nutrition :: neon tetra as feeder?

can i feed my turtle with neon tetra (paracheirodon innesi) ?

is quite small and cheap...and also beautiful to breed hehehehe

I am sure it is fine. Rosie Red minnows are the best for them and you can get them for usually less than 10 cents a piece and Petco.

can you post the pic of rossie red minnows? is it a kind of guppy?

or at least can you give the latin name so i can search it trough the web?
because there might be different local name here and i just need to now their physical appearance

They're just fathead minnows bred to have a more pleasing color. Any kind of minnow would be fine as a feeder. The scientific name is : Pimephales promelas

At my local petco they keep the tank right next too the turtles in the reptiles section.

I think any small, healthy fish can be a feeder fish, I mean, really any fish can, it's just what you are willing to pay. If you are planning on breeding them yourself, that will keep them even healthier, and tetras aren't very expensive that I can recall. Just stay away from goldfish, no matter where you are, those are never very healthy fish.

Around here Petco and Petsmart charge 12 cents for a rosie red minnow. You can get a lot of minnows for a couple of dollars.

I wouldn't feed either.

If you'd like an occasional high protein snack for him, try krill or tiny feeder guppies (you'd be surprised at how well the small guys can catch them).

Anything like that should only be fed about once a month.

Since your original question pertained to tetras, those are pretty small, I would bet he could catch them. I thought my turtle was too little to catch a rosie red and sure enough, took him a little while, but he got the fish and chowed it down. Remember, in the wild, they'd have to try to eat anything they could get, so I bet you'd be surprised that your little guy can eat a whole fish.
