Feeding and Nutrition :: Rosey Red seems to have something wrong with it

Hey guys!! I"m happy to say Turtle is fine! and doing very well, he's currently shedding his schutes? So i recently bought him a dozen Rosey Reds' (today) and this one fish in the group has some kind of physical abnormalities. It seems to have like what looks like pimples growing in him like bumps. The other fish in the group seem to completely clear of that problem. I mean aside from the bumps the fish looks fine should i risk feeding him to turtle? or should i quarantine? ( i prefer to give him live game?)should i quarantine all of them too? and for how long?

any information would be greatly appreciated!

Ech 418 -- I would love to help you on this one, but I am not a vet. I would not feed him to my turtle. I would put him the garbage or down the disposal. Now, if you want to spend some money, put him in a bottle and visit a fish vet. Maybe, an Ichthyologist. What he has may be contagious, but who knows.

Agree - don't feed any sick fish to your turtle.

it doesn't seem sick just looks like it's got pimples lol. i think i might just flush it and quarantine the rest for a few days

I have noticed those on a few of my rosies as well. They look like little tumors to me.
I don't feed the bumpy fish to my turtle, but I do feed the others and haven't had a problem.

I am curious as to what the issue is... it seems to be common in feeders.

ah i see, my douche bag of a friend just poured bleach into the bottle where isolated the tumored fish, apparently after i changed the water the fish is still alive O_O maybe these tumor fish are super fish?

After doing a quick internet search, it seems that when they come into mating season, males may develop bumps on their head/upper bodies. You didn't specify a location, so it might be this.

I agree. I was just reading about the "breeding tubercles"
That would certainly explain why they're so common.

I feel bad that I wasted so many decent feeder males now...

aww well i'm not going to feed him to my turtle anyway he was bathed in bleach ;-; but thanks for the info, in the future i will feed the bumpie ones to my turtle

I see a lot of abnormalities with minnows... the inbreeding and filthy conditions they are kept in are a concern for me.

Ericj418, I would probably keep your friend away from all of your pets and I would appreciate some care in the words you use on this forum.
