i know my dog howie he is 80 pounds and he ate a whole bag of chocolate bars one day and i found the empty bag but he ate the wrappers n all . He didnt look to good so I called our vet . she said it shouldnt bother him since he is a very big dog. I guess in dogs it goes by the weight of the dog to depend on how much is too much. The wrappers made him sicker than anything !!! always something with this dog he is as bad as a kid. He also ate a leaf off of a philideneron plant i have ( very poisonous to people and dogs) made it through it all. it feels like i got to keep all the stuff on the ceiling or he figures out how to get it!

for those that are interested...all chocolate is not the same

What's toxic is an ingredient in pure cocoa - milk chocolate is generally less bothersom than cooking chocolate. Essentially, the darker it is, the more toxic it is for animals.

Of course, the reverse is true for people. Go figure.

And yes, onions are also toxic to canines, not sure about anybody else. Onion in *any* form coagulates the blood. Again, small amounts may not be noticeable, however larger amounts all at one time can be be a serious problem.

You know, last weekend I read an article about how chocolate wasn't good for animals (the article was geared toward dogs and the holiday season). It was baking chocolate that was mentioned as being actually toxic for them.

Karen

Thank you for mentioning that. As I was reading the posts, I thought to myself but some chocolate isn't as bad.

My friend is a Vet Tech for dogs and she feeds them chocolate on rare occassions, but never cocoa!

Yeah I try not to feed chocolate to any animal.
Just watch to see if they are okay and if anything changes take them to a vet

yes kittens generally become lactose intolerant as they develop into cats. At least lactose-reduced milk is being sold
