Feeding and Nutrition :: I fed my baby turtles 3 big leaves of red lettuce

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Post Posted: Sun Jul 29, 2007 1:53 pm   I fed my baby turtles 3 big leaves of red lettuce

each leaf was about the size of their shell. And the next morning i woke up and found poop EVERYWHERE

i am not feeding them that much lettuce ever again! I had to sue my turkey baster about 30 times to get all the poop formthe bottom of the tank.
they alsmo made a huge mess, after I scooped up all the poop, billions of tiny bits of lettuce started floating around. luckily my fitler took care of most of the little bits of lettuce
im only feeding them 1 leaf a day no, or something less messy!

You can try only one leaf a lettuce per day, and see if that helps. Remember to feed other veggies too since lettuce doesnt have much nutrition. my two turtles LOVE endives and it isnt as messy as lettuce for some reason (lettuce as always leaves little itty bitty bits of particles floating around)

how do yo know endives are good for your turels?
I always have a huge variety of veggies in my fridge, but I am afraid to feed them to my turtles because I don't know if it is healthy or not!
The list stickied at the top of this section doesn't include a lot of stuff, like cinlantro, basil, radishes, turnips, nappa cabbage, cabbage, scallions, etc

I know radish leaves are good as well as some basil. Mostly the leafy stuff and not so much other (parts) of vegetables. I grow radishes and they take about three weeks and you can grow them several times during the summer-easy food for you and the turtle right there. I also had success with romaine lettuce-grows very good.
