I just bought some anarchis at petsmart, it's got a rubberband and something else wrapped around the bottom, should I take this off??

I would take it off, my turts eat about anything and a rubberband isn't healthy!

Is the other "thing" this metal looking coil that wraps around the roots of the plant?

Yes it is, I took them both off, i thought maybe I should keep it together to keep it looking pretty, but it's fine just floating... and OMG my turtles love it! I thought they would leave it alone since they've ignored green and red leaf lettuce but they attacked it immediately.

Maybe you could hide some lettuce among the floating anarchris!
You could trick them into eating their veggies!

I've never offered any

The local Petco has a large tank in the center of the fish section but it's like 4 inches tall just wide and theres always a lot of dead fish in it and has probably never been cleaned so when they rarely have it I'de pass on it. The Petsmart wanted 8 bucks..didn't have enough..oh well.

the anacharis I bought from petco just had a simple twisty tie around it, which i took off.
my turtle doesn't like anacharis. when i first dumped some in the tank, it would take a bite out, then spit it out. repeat this 15 times. i decided to just leave it there as some decoration, but the next morning found all the leaves ripped off and none of it eaten

so I took it out cause it was causing such a mess.

8$ is rather expensive for anacharis..I got mine for 2$ and 50 something cents..

It was like $6 or $8-it was in the special tank as in they don't usually have it..whatever it was, it was more than I could afford at the time.

Try Ebay! I know it sounds funny, but the prices for Anacharis are way better than in pet stores. Here's one I deal with often. A single strand from this place is about 18 inches long, so it is about the same amount that you get at a pet store for a single bunch. And you get 30 for about 15.00, which means it's like paying 50 cents a bunch.

Ew that sounds gross, Petsmart has it in a separate tank with just plants...and it was $2.19

Hey that sounds like a good deal scripta! Thanks!
My turts loved the anachris, but it was too expensive to buy very often. They ate the whole bundle in 20 minutes.

Hey Scripta, have you tried keeping them alive indoors? I've been thinking about keeping some but I'd rather not have anything outside.

Steve,
I keep some alive in a separate tank. I have a little 10 gal. I tossed a filter on it to get some air in the water and I make sure it gets some sun. So far it grows at about 1 inch a week.
