Feeding and Nutrition :: Post your pellet mixes

Well did end up going to Petsmart today. But what did I forget to even look for? Exo terra pellets on clearance..

But I went to the fridge section and got some of these

I've heard good things about them and Squirt loves them! They were about $6. (Not on clearance)

And at both the petsmarts I go to they have those exact same habitats for the sliders. Same amount of rock in them and everything.

haha sometimes i get sidetracked too, so i make a list of things that i want to look at when i go there. i think i've seen those before, but was hesitant to try it. those look nice to try, now i'm excited to go back to Petsmart

I got the Exo Terra pellets on clearance today for $1.37, yay! They were out of everything else, but I'm still happy I got that.

Toby loves those ATD frozen cubes too! I only give him about 1 or 2 cubes a week because those suckers are expensive.

oh wow you got them cheaper than i did! haha , i bought mine for $2.20. when you drop those cubes in, do they float &/or shred easily, especially when the turts bite at them?

I fed him one of the cubes last night. When first thrown in they float, and then thaw out very quickly and become easily shredded. Squirt had no problems at all eating his within 30 seconds.

They float. Mine bites at it then swims around frantically trying to cram it all in before it melts. He's just under three inches so it doesn't work but in less then a minute there is nothing left. You would think they are messy but if the turt likes them then there really isn't one.

Lol. Yeah I plan to feed those cubes 1-2x per week as a healthy treat. I don't want him to get attached to them too much.

They do make a little bit of a mess in the tank. I watched squirt eat his just now and there's little bits of stuff flying around the tank. They are easily being picked up by my filter though

We finally made it to petsmart today. We got the Hikari, exoterra and a big container of nutrafin all for under five bucks and he loves them all. He only gets each once a week so I figure it won't hurt. They had the jurassical supplement for only 1.37 so we picked up the last bottle... well the last container of everything.

I wouldn't be surprised if all this stuff came back, when I worked there they would clearance a lot of fish food just to bring it back a few months later.

awesome you got all the foods. i couldn't find the Hikari turtle sticks at Petsmart or Petco.

they look cute when they're younger. i've forgotten what it's like to take care of one when they're young

btw, the ExoTerra sticks are ok, but some are small & don't float well. But Crush does eat them. it was good to try something different, but i don't think i'll buy them again though

you're welcome. well they're alright to feed, but i wouldn't suggest to add them to your RES's diet. most of us really want our RES's foods to float well enough for them to feed, but some of the ExoTerra's sticks are too small that they just drop to the bottom of the tank once i put them in. unless your tank is bare bottom, i don't think it'll be a good idea for your RES to munch on some sand or possibly gravel while munching on the sticks that fell to the bottom. (i know a RES eating sand isn't harmful, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't avoid it). so this is my opinion on ExoTerra, let me know if the sticks work different for you guys . but i think i'll just finish up what i bought & avoid them from now on.
