Java fern will grow almost under any conditions once it gets established in an aquarium. Also Anubias Nana grows quite well in medium to low light. If your light is bright enough, the sword plants and cryptocoryne species are also good in aquariums. Most of these can be found in a decent pet shop.

I have this huge Java fern in a bucket right now, don't have any where else to put it. Serra ate the small one I put in her tank a few min ago, now she's gnawing on the stalks, My mom won't let me put it in the Oranda tank, she said it's horribly ugly. LOL

Aw that's too bad. Tell her that Java fern is a great natural filter and will help keep the water clean as well as oxygenated. :)

Java fern ugly? I thought is was actually quite pretty! I have some of that, a few sword plants and some type of plant that is purple on the bottom and green on top in my ten gallon fish aquarium. Some hornwort and anacharis got eaten, but most of it died. I think the water temperature must have been to high for them.

Well the huge plant is old and turning brown and its coverd with baby ones of all sizes, so you can make where it starts and where it ends! Actually, I'm not sure if I see a mother plant at all!

I second the motion for a sticky on growing awuatic plants! LOL
Octpusgirl8, I used to buy anacharis from Petsmart too. Don't do it anymore! You know how at Petsmart it's like $2.50 for one small bunch? Well, I went to this koi store and they were selling BIG bags of it for $5.00! I'm talking, like 2 liter bottle sized bag full of it! My girl was very happy. I'm still going to try to grow my own though too.

I just bought some anacharis from petsmart, and yes they are small and in bad condition, I tried to get 2 bunches of what I thought looked the best, but they still had ugly brown leaves exept for some of the top ones, I'm hopping that now that I have it growing in my 10 gal tank with a 26 watt full spectrum light that it will start to grow and look greener and thicker
