I am coming into this thread late.
So our big girl sheds plenty but the 2 newly adopted 3 yr olds, you can tell they are smaller than to be expected and were fed pellets, worms and crickets before with no heater or basking. So now I have their temp here at 75ish, and they are eating pellets happily. But want to try this jello shots idea and want a good combo to help their growth and maybe shed some scutes. So I plan to use the red and green lettuces, my family likes salad anyways. Some blueberries, apple peel, pellets, rep-cal. Anything else?
Also, how exactly do you use gelatin with this, I have only made instant jello before for my kids and cannot picture how to make real stuff?
Thanks
Dawn

I finally got around to making these, and naturally I screwed it up (put the two packets in the whole bowl of slop instead of one cup). But they froze fine, and I threw in a whole cube yesterday morning. First time she's ever had tuna, but safe to say she likes them. a LOT. I believe she was actually trying to run away from me - she got a big ol hunk in her big ol beak, swam to the corner facing away from me, then went up to her basking spot, all the while keeping one eye on me as if to say "my presicoussss...MY PRESICOUSSS!" It was too funny!

So I pushed her back in the water and plucked it out because I didn't know if it might've gotten stuck. then she gobbled it up. Good times in turtle bay today!

Well, I read every post in this thread a couple of weeks ago and I decided to give the Jello shots a try. My daughter and I took on the task of sending all ingredients through the blender which created an odor I don't think she'll soon forget, and we just followed the instructions(for the most part), and they came out great.

I was really hoping we'd be among those who've had success with the "shots" and I have to say that I couldn't be happier. Our little RES gobbles his jello right up.

If only we hadn't killed the blender. Thankfully my wife is easy going and wasn't too upset about the loss. Time to look for a new one at the garage sales this summer. :D

This is a GREAT recipe, and Miss Tee has been happily gobbling these down every other day (she gets pellets the other days) for over 6 months now! She loves Turtle Shots!

Is there a reason knox gelatin is listed, or will any unflavored gelatin do? Also, does anyone know how much gelatin is in two packs? I have a box of unflavored gelatin, I just need to know how much to measure.

I tried these on my turt today and he devoured them! He's typically not a picky eater though, but I like that it has everything he needs in it. ^_^ I will have to agree that it does smell like a bad sushi bar when making them though...

I finally have a reason to use my Magic Bullet! These were pretty easy to make but I am completely incapable of removing star-shaped jello pieces from a silicone tray, so they kind of came out looking pretty ugly, but I think Shelly will be pleased with the offering all the same. They are currently freezing today but I'm gonna toss one in there tonight and see how he likes it!

@Kurtni - I don't have the exact amout of gelatin in those packets but they are tiny. A rough estimate in my opinion would be about 1 tbsp per packet, so a total of 2 tbsp for the recipe. Again, that's just a guess! If I remember when I get home from work, I will look at the box and get back to you! :)

So apparently Tesla keeps snubbing his nose at the turtle jello I unfroze. How good does the frozen jello stay in the freezer? I have the rest of the veggie puree frozen too, but how good does that stay? It made a LOT of jello for me, but I just wish he wouldn't be so darn picky about the jello I unfroze. :P

Any suggestions? Did I mess something up?

I think your answer is somewhere in this topic. Next to the "post reply" button on the top is a search field for just this thread. You might need to adjust the recipe to have fewer veggies.

You can get calcium powder in the reptile section of a pet store.
You can also use ground up cuttlebone. Cuttlebone is also available in the reptile section or in the bird section of a pet store.
