not eww more like AMAZING!

its name was eyes jr, after the snail i found when i was in mexico that died, which was only 3 inches long. my second biggest compared to this one. the three others were from the US from a bio supply company, all 2 inches long.

anyway, this snail, the GALS, eyes jr, he/she ate a banana a day, and even a half an ear of corn. it was a great snail. i miss it.

One thing I love about this forum is learning about all the different creatures people keep for pets. I would never in a million years have dreamed a snail could get so big as that GALS.

I have snails in aquariums, they are a nuisance to me. they can clog your filter & If you let them breed there can be hundreds in the tank, that generates more waste. I just took 24 snails out of my tropical fish tank. FYI, the little aquarium snails yo see never get any bigger. They are small & hard to see.

lol yeah, i used to have aquarium snails, but i got rid of them, trust me, i know how they breed! i wish they werent a threat to my filter, otherwise i would have kept them.

my land snail had 72 babies. they "do it" for like 3 days straight. unfortuately, no aquatic snail gets to be a foot long. that would be cool. i like land snails better because you can interact with them more i guess. and your turtles dont eat them hehe. that wasnt the only snail i found in hawaii tho. i found 7 others, each about 4 inches.

and what was really cool is that even tho the GALS is that big, the radula isnt sharp at all! it tickles.

Nice looking snail. :) I like the way they travel around in the tank.

yes, it does leave a slime trail. which can gross people out, but thats like..not as bad as a frog peeing on you or something. just, wash it off! 8)

and, i must admit, its foot feels REALLY cool when its crawling on you with its muscles in its foot, kindof like a snake, just without bones and slimey with suction. feels like waves rippleing on your skin, and surprisingly cold.

I feed my turtles (one RES, one box turtle) the brown snails that I find in my yard. They love them. The shells are not a problem- they crunch the shells in their jaws. My RES seems to shake the largest bits of shell off of the snails, because I find many shell fragments in the bottom of his pond. I think he must eat some shell, though, and my box turtle eats the shells... good source of calcium.

Whenever we have a big rain I walk around collecting snails from all over the yard, then I just toss them to the turtles.

Now, I don't use any sort of pesticides on my yard, and I use only organic, turtle-safe ones on the vegetable garden. So if you use things that you are not 100% sure are safe, then don't feed yard snails to your turtles.

Since Speedy LOVES snails, I add them to his tank regularly. When I'm at the pet store getting feeders, I always get dozens of free snails too (the little black pesky ones). The associates are always glad to get rid of them. Even though I add dozens at a time (sometimes 3 or 4 dozen), I have never had them live long enough reproduce. (About twice a month.)

Speedy also LOVES slugs. Since I don't use pesticides, every slug I find goes into his tank. Its a rare treat for him.

He also enjoys tadpols and little frogs...
Speedo, male RES, 7.5in/19cm (my son's).
Tanks:
75g: Speedo's home; shared with two oscars and a placo.
75g: Hamster tank since I can't put water in it.
29g: Pending new setup (Speedo's last home).
10g: Home to small fish (Speedo's first home).

I was googling those a while back. I'd get one if I could. Cool critters.

babcock, slugs and frogs are bad things to feed your turtle. Slugs carry intestinal and bacterial parasites that can make Speedy very sick. Froglets can be toxic.

Please don't take such chances with Speedy's health.
