I don't know of any species of water hyacinth that isn't safe for turtles (there are seven). The one you'll be most like to buy is the common water hyacinth. They have huge roots that are purple-blackish and are very feathery. If you google water hyacinth, you'll more than likely be able to see what it looks like.
