Feeding and Nutrition :: no food for 4 days??

@steve - once the 24 hours are done, you have to turn the knob again so that the timer will start again, and that's for only 1 socket. I'd have to buy three for the filter and 2 basking lights. anyway, I found this by searching the website of our local handyman store and ace hardware store. Will have to go the actual store later to search for more and to confirm on how to operate these things. thanks though.

Ikea sold those timers. And also many diy shops. At least in sg.
Its mechanical. With switch on the side for always on vs timer mode
And those timers cycled 24hrs. Some is @15mins resolutions. And 30mins sets. Hear the click when u adjust the time.
Take care not to buy 12hrs version. Make sure u see 1-24 hrs around the clock.
Mechanical is better than digital. Trust me.

I purchased eheim knockoff autofeeder from dx.com.
But 4days without eating is ok. Even taro small turtle last 4days without eating when stressed.

hi dumbork. got my timer at ace hardware. cost me about P500. they also sell a more expensive but better one at P1000+. You can do a combination of programmings with it. i programmed mine to turn on and off at the same time each day. There's a small manual that comes with it. it's easy to program. you may want to test it though before leaving.

hi dumbork. any luck finding a timer? checked mine and it doesnt have a brand name to it. mine looks like the one posted by mukyo except that it has several buttons on it not a wheel. took a pic but couldnt upload.

turtles can actually go weeks even months with out food: turtle have a slow metabolism so if they are well to overfeed like most are, they can go a WHILE with out food.

It is not recommended to go more than a week, but they will be fine if it happens.

about the food, we finally figured it out: we'll leave two small feeder fish -- before dumbork wouldn't eat them, maybe now she'll think twice since we'll be gone for three days! what do you think?

Might not be a bad idea. If she's hungry enough, she'll do what she needs to. If not, then she'll eat like a little piggy when you get back. lol

thanks cutepanda! we actually had a dry run last weekend. she tried to chase the two fish around and around, but she can't seem to catch them! afterwards we chucked the fishes out (sorry fishies, but all drains lead to the ocean ). hopefully the next two fishes will be enough for three days.

weird question though: usually i observe her poop (told you it was weird), and i always see bits of what i feed her daily (lettuce, cuttlebone, etc). do you think i will see bits and pieces of the fish's remains in her poop (gross, sorry), or will it completely disintegrate?

Yowch. Glad I'm not a feeder fish. lol

Considering Sheldon mauled his but didn't eat it, I'm not sure what you'll see. I have to admit though Sheldon seems to poop something that has to be half his body weight, so maybe it won't be that noticeable.
