Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I had trouble keeping the water temp at 78 this summer until I gave in and bought an AC. Now I keep the room at 78 so it's not bad on electricity. I unplugged the water heater, and the water temp has stayed between 78 and 80 since. I had a little trouble with the basking temps being too high, but have since adjusted using a lamp stand, holding my double dome fixture with a 13W 5.0 reptiglo bulb and a low wattage incandescent. It's been a bit of trial and error but my basking temps have been steady around 90 degrees now.

Regarding feeding habits, I think I'm lucky as well. Charlie eats everything! As far as I know he's about 8-9 months old now and receiving 6 Mazuri pellets a day (roughly the size of his head), plus a full leaf of lettuce when I'm not out of town. He'll pretty much chow down on whatever I put I there though, whether it's cuttlebone, carrots, fruit, shrimp, crickets, etc. He also likes to chew on his basking platform, which is now cork bark because if he's gonna eat it it's gonna be natural.

New behavior observed this week: he begs regularly, especially in the morning before I feed him. The other day, he actually sprinted up to his basking platform and tried "running" through the glass to get me. Not only has he never done that before, but he's usually very skiddish when on the platform, so it's very strange behavior. I don't know what made him so aggressive, and he hasnt done it since, but it was certainly entertaining.

good for you. just remember to cut back on the treats (fruit and shrimp), maybe once a month so he won't grow fast. ;)

Yea I've had a hard time deciding how often to offer them so to be on the safe side I rarely do.
