If you get live crickets, get the small ones. You could make them more nutritious by gut-loading them for a day (keep them in a container with some cricket food that contains calcium), but that is more work. If you put a bunch in at one time, they have a way of finding land (and escaping). Some used to climb on my painteds' backs and ride around with them in the tank. If they fall in the water, their struggling should arouse the interest of your turtle. You could also buy the canned ones or freeze dried ones. I've used the canned ones but not the freeze-dried ones. Perhaps trying a cut-up earthworm would be easier.

All turtles have different tastes. I have a male and female, my male doesn't like lettuce as much as the female, but he'll eat grass pellets. Neither of my turtles will touch carrots. RES are very picky. How old and how long is your turtle?

Every couple of days, give your turtle meat only for its feeding. The more they see it, the more likely they'll take to it. Also, if you have baby shrimp or krill, try it out. Reptomin makes really great dried proteins that my turtles love. You could also try feeder guppies, since your turtle just need a good hunting experience.

Have fun with feeding them try different things, and you'll see a ton of your turtle's personality come out.

I wouldn't get a turtle used to eating meat, and the only meat I give my turtles is a rare piece of boiled white chicken meat. Shrimp, krill, etc. are all high in protein and are better given as treats as well.

Yeah, I typically use them as a once a week treat along with the gammarus pellets.

Protein isn't a bad thing, though. Compared to when I first got them, now they are very muscular and strong, and even though they are just two inches long they push their tunnel around, and can lift the river rocks that are double their size. Having some protein once a week keeps them more active with each other and their enclosure. They love playing with the bubbles of the air stone, and sticking their heads through the holes of the cactus tunnel. Happy little guys ;)

My little guy did that too! I have two turtles. The little guy didn't want to eat, because the bigger guy kept pushing it away. (There's around half an inch difference between them.) So you can try isolating the little guy and feeding him alone for a while, and see what happens, if the little guy is being bullied.

And my little guy also vomits pellets after a few, and it used to not eat any pellets at all. Sound familiar? It might be because little guy needs a bit more basking time, which it's not getting cuz the other turtles take up the platform so often.

Hope this helps!
