The reason is because people who flush them ddown thier drain may end up flushing them into the surrounding aquatic systems (aka, rivers and lakes, and even ponds) and because Anacharis is so adaptable it quickly takes over the local vegetation. This is only a problem if you live in the right kind of temperate environment. This is also why you should throw out plants you don't want instead of flushing them down the drains. and throw them out, not just wash them into your garden (unless you live in a place where it dries out on a regular basis). Anyway, sorry, I'm studying plant ecology, and one of the issues is public accidental release of exotic species into the wild, and then the exotic species out competes native plants causing all sorts of havoc on the local environmental cycle. A long explaination, but it should make sense now.
