Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Post Posted: Sun May 13, 2007 6:38 pm   How do I force feed my 1.5 inch turtle?!?!

I know you need a syringe, and I don't have one, so any other ways?!?!? ALSO!!! How do you get them to open their mouths? If she just opened her mouth...
I have two baby RES; Emerald(Emmie or Rocky for short, plus she has green ears!) and Pretty. (Don't ask me about her name. My brother named her. He's only 6 1/2.)

Why are you trying to force feed your turtle? The only reason you should be opening their mouths is if you are injecting oral medication. If that is not the case you should try enticing them to eat via the tips on this site.

You can't force feed the turtle.

Have you tried mealworms or earthworms like I suggested? Read up on the section to try and get him to eat. Like I said in the other post, he doesn't need a lot. If he's eating anything he's probably doing fine. The amount of about 2 baby rept. pellets are about right for 1 1/2in turtle. If you feed him a worm or something else that means he doesn't need pellets that day.

If he isn't eating ANYTHING, here's the link to encourage him to eat:

I agree. It is not neccesary to force feed. With a little privacy, your turtle will eat again (read my response to your last thread..).

It's usually not recommended to do so. If you are acting based on your vet's instructions, then he/she should have at least demonstrated what needs to be done. I would contact them again for clearer instructions and inform them of everything you have been doing for your turtle.
