A goiter is actually an enlarged thyroid gland. An inbalanced diet high in foods with such properties can contribute to this problem in humans as well.

The amount you fed your turtle isn't going to harm her. A varied diet like you're giving her is really good. Concentrating on those leafy greens would also be good. :)

Latest update on how Sheba's "new diet" is going:

In the last 2 weeks, I added organic collards, boiled sweet potato, a small blueberry, a grape, and a small bite of banana. She LOVED, LOVED, LOVED ("attacked") the first 4, the banana not so much (kept spitting it out, but continued to "taste" it anyway until it was all shredded in the water).

In between, I fed her some leftover cooked salmon which she very readily ate.

I don't recognize my "vegetarian" turtle these days.....hahahaha

Hi Industrial_girl_2000

I personally wouldn't recommend feeding her rinsed off chinese food, almost all chinese restaurant made their food extra salty and they even put MSG in it to preserve the flavor, and having been out for that long some of the flavor might got inside the food already. I know your turtle shows no sign of illness, but it may build up and may cause kidney problem. Just a friendly suggestion that's all :)

(coming from asian country, I know what a really good chinese food taste like, I really don't like how they made the food so strong taste here, it's really not that healthy for human :(

Thank you RESCHIU!!! I will take your kind words to heart. I only fed Sheba the stir fry carrot string that one time to see if she would eat cooked carrots & she did. I don't get takeout very often because it is expensive for me. The good news is that the Chinese place I ordered from specifically said they don't use MSG in their food, so I hope they weren't lying to me! :)

Thanks again for the tip! :)

no problem, just don't want Sheba to get sick, they have small kidney, so they probably couldn't take as much as we do. Well, I think ALL chinese restaurant put MSG in it, it's only the matter of how much and what kind they put. My mom sometimes put a natural MSG in the food she cooks that is made of fish, which is very natural and healthy, but anyway, just be careful from now on for both you and your turtle :)

Yes congatulations on giving her the veggies. Mine take 3 days to eat a leaf of Romaine. Then I have to take the rest out before it gets all brown. They are just over a year now So I am only feeding them every other day or every 3rd day and their ver fast growing has slowed down. That is good.
