Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Does anyone know if the small neon tetra fish are ok for my turtle to eat? I added 3 to his tank today, and after checking on him, 30 minutes later, they have disappeared into his belly :!: .... The guppies have done well avoiding my RES but I guess the tetra's were to slow.

I dont know the answer to your :?: , but how much do you pay for the neon tetras? I know the minners are cheap, here about 0.10 cents each.

And ya, the minners are a little fast for my 1.5" turt. He has to sneek & corner them. Its kinda like he has to work for his treat. :o

Frankly, no. Stick with guppies or minnows for live fish... thats about it.

Why are they not as healthy? I know goldfish are too fatty, but tetras are so tiny I can't imagine they are a lot of anything :-)

steve knows his stuff, I trust his word.
From the homegrowers soul, straight to his lungs. That's the method that I myself find fun. Start from seed and then you'll see, just how fun homegrowing can be.

Maybe because they are too slow and the turtle would over-eat...? That would prolly be the reason I wouldn't use them based on the initial post.

My hatchling hasn't caught any of the guppies in his tank yet either. I have been slowly feeding them one by one to my aquatic frog who, with lightening-quick reflexes, seems to catch them with no problems. :)
