Hello all,

I visited the pet store to get some pellet food today and I found a new one on the market. It's called "HBH Turtle Bites Aquatic Turtle Food" (you have to use the whole name because they have another food called just "Turtle Bites.") It looks to have some good ingredients and it is lower in protein than most sticks, which is good for adult turtles especially.

It has lots of fruit and veggies, which is good, but the things I woprry about are a)the amount of things in there that I don't know what they are, like copper sulfate, and b)it has a Vitamin D3 supplement. Since my turtle lives outdoors in the sunshine I am not convinced this is necessary and I don't want him to get Vit D toxicity... what do you think? Also, the spinach and broccoli aren't good everyday foods. I'm torn because a food with lots of veggies seems better than a grain-based food but the ingredients here are a bit questionable.

Here they are:

fish meal, soybean meal, corn meal, corn gluten meal, soya oil, coconut oil, wheat, calcium carbonate, raisins, coconut, papaya, apricot, banana, sweet potato, pineapple, apple, spinach, broccoli, carrots, dates, dicalcium phosphate, l-lysine, choline chloride, natural and artificial flavors, dl methionine, vitamin E supplement, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), ferrous sulfate, d-biotin, yucca schidigera extract, zinc oxide, manganous oxide, niacinamide, vitamin B12 supplement, green tea extract, mixed tocopherols, rosemary extract, copper sulfate, calcium iodate, citric acid, vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, sodium selenite, folic acid, riboflavin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate, natural and artificial colors, menadione dimethylpyrimidinol bisulfite (source of vitamin K3), vitamin D3 supplement, cobalt sulfate.

What do you think?

They're not really that new if they're what I'm thinking of. Someone on another forum called them turtle crack because her turtles like them so much. She thought this was of the oil in them (lots) and gives them to her turtles as treats.

I've seen them and have always been struck by the spinach, broccoli, etc., as well as all the sweet foods in them. Occasionally, for variety, I don't think they'd hurt.

Wow, sounds yummy. I may have to get this for my turtle. Glad to see they have one on the market that has some veggies in it.

Thanks for posting the name!

Ya, saw this stuff at Pets Mart. It seems to be good for them and it was only 4.99 which is a good deal.
