Whoops, I meant Thiaminase and wasn't referring to thiamine in my 6/23 post. Sorry for any confusion.

BullDog, cuttlebone is good, but if your turtle eats it all immediately, then I would offer it in moderation. If I leave anything in my tank it disappears quickly :P

You don't need to use much cuttlebone... think of it as a supplement to a well varied diet.

Thats what I was thinking... I think I'll do one "1/2 head size" piece every few days... He hasn't had any cuttlebone for the last 10 years, and his shell is in good condition, so I guess his meals are fairly balanced.

I really appreciate everyones help! I've learned so much in the last 2 weeks ^__^

I wouldn't worry about overdosing on cuttlebone (it's not like it's 100% calcium). If a turtle is lacking calcium in the diet, it will be eaten more quickly. I've found that my turtles eat less of it when there's been more of it in the tank than usual. I think it's because they've had their fill of it for the moment.
