Hi
I am Ramesh and I am back after 2 months. In my previous post, I have asked about the amount of food I need to give my RES. Few members gave suggestions and I understood that my RES is growing too fast . So I reduced the amount of reptomin and feeding him twice. But if he sees anyone , he comes to people and beg beg beg. He makes us feel that he is famished . I feel sorry for him. Previously he used just beg now he tries to climb the glass of the tank and makes noice of water with his movements. I am leaving some lettuce in the tank. Here getting Lettuce everyday is not possible, so I give when ever I find them. Before he never even try to eat lettuce but now he is eating a little bit of it ,as he is not getting pellets like before. He is around 4 inches and I am giving him 6 to 7 pellets of reptomin twice a day. Is it ok or can I increase the quantity ? Please let me know if I am doing ok with his care.
Also I want to share some thing . Recently a pet store guy called me about an adult RES swollen eyes. I told him to use cod liver oil. And the RES became perfectly ok. Thanks to all . I got the info from you all.
Ramesh.

Hope your little guy is doing well. Is it twice a day everyday you're feeding him? Or twice a day every other day?

Sort out his food in a pill box. Let people know if they were to give him any, it cannot be more than what's allocated for him. If you're feeding him that amount everyday, I think it's a little too much.

you're giving your turtle way too much food. i feed each of my 4 month old turtles 2 pellets and a small leaf of lettuce twice a day.

Hi all
thanks for all suggestions. My problem is my turtle always beg for food . He does it as if he starving for months. He does it all day when he looks some one. But once he is given food he doesnt do it much. We got him 7 months back. I gave him lettuce he ate them , i left a cuttle bone in the tank and he ate half of it. Do you all want me to reduce the amount of pellets no matter how he begs. He is around 4 inches big. Shall i give him 5 to 6 pellets twice a day ? I read on the pellets container that give your Turtle as much as he consumes and take out what he doesnt eat.
please give me your suggestions.
thanks once again.

I had been giving my little guy, Daryl too much food to start - we had him eating twice a day, about 1/4 teaspoon of food each time.

Since we got our rescue, Matilda, we cut him down to once a day, 1/4 teaspoon - this has brought his energy up, he's basking the right amount, and his hunger response is more active (because he feels hungrier).

It's really hard to resist a begging turtle. But remind yourself: a begging turtle is a healthy turtle.

Ignore the feeding directions on the package... it's often too much.
