Feeding and Nutrition :: RES's shell turning up (pic included)

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Hello. New turtle owner. I have had my RES for about 3 wks. I noticed on one of them the shell seems to be turning a bit up at the edges. Does anyone have suggestions? Is this normal as they grow? They are eating hatchling pellets currently. They are in a 20 gal tank, the other one's shell is normal. I hopefully have attached a pic. Thank you in advance!

It could be related to diet and habitat conditions. What's he eating? How much? Does he have UVB, calcium and a good basking area?

Thank you for your response. He has a UVB, heat lamp, large basking area, 20 gal tank. He is eating a hatchling pellet/mealworm/freeze died blood worms/krill combo. I have seen a lot of info saying as much food as can fit in there head. So I do that. All food is gone w/in 5-10 mins.

Sounds like he needs some calcium. Can you give the pellet nutrient break down?

And cut down on the protein. Diet is especially important during early growth.

Yeah either put in a cuttlebone or dust his pellets with calcium twice a week. I usually dust them with Repticalcium(w/o d3) and feed each pellet one or two at a time(the powder only stays on there so long once you drop it in water).

And you are going a bit crazy on the protein. Start offering greens too(red and green leaf lettuces).
