Feeding and Nutrition :: Turtle eating own crap

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Post Posted: Mon Jan 09, 2006 5:49 pm   Turtle eating own crap

Hi,

It is a relatively recent event, but my RES 'Gus' has started eating his own crap. Could this be a sign of boredom/not enough food?

Just wondering if anyone else has experience this and if there are any recommendations?

Thanks very much for your help.

Cheers!

It's disgusting, but normal. RES are oportunistic eaters and will eat anything, including their own poop. I had a dog that did that.

Get a turkey baster and use it to suck up the poop, if you don't want him eating it all the time. :)

Ours is a poop eater too. When I see her doing it I try to get her attention and tell her to knock it off and she gives me this look like "What? What'd I do?"

my turtles will see their poop and think it's food at first. then they smell it and get grossed out and leave it alone.
