Feeding and Nutrition :: proper jello shot serving amount

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I am feeding both of my turtles jello shots for all of their meals, and I am not sure if I am over feeding them or not. I found an awesome ice cube tray that is for pellet ice, so it creates individual jello shots that are slightly smaller than their head..... so I know for pellets that you should only feed them a portion size that is the size of their head, so should I just give them 1.5 jello shots? or is the portion size for jello shots different than pellets?

thanks in advance,

In the recipe I use, there's a great deal of pellets in the jello shots. I either just feed the jello shots or feed jello shots as the main meal and just add the regular amount of pellets because my turtles never eat more than 1 or 2 (if im lucky) of the pellets anyways.

I feed my girl 1 to 1.5 ice cube jello shots a day. Which works out to be approximately the size of her head. The way I look at it if my turtle actually ate veggies normally I'd have a bunch in the tank she could just eat so since she doesn't might as well have a little extra jello cube

I too feed my RES mostly jello shots. But I tweeked the recipe to make it a better staple. The shots are just red and green lettuce, a bit of carrot, some calcium and a bunch of ground up pellets. Then I have the other shots with the ingredients to help with shedding that I give when he is or needs to shed.

thanks for all of your feedback, that totally helps me out! one other quick question, do you give the jello shots to your turtles frozen or do you just store them in the fridge and give them to the thawed?

Freeze them, and feed them frozen. At least that's what I do. They thaw quickly when they hit the water.

What is a basic jello shot recipe exactly? I understand you can tweak, add more/less depending on your turtles tastes, but if I was going to make jello shots for the first time ever for Trevor, what would you guys recommend I include?

I've dropped alot of the extras in the ones i make for Kodi.

She now just gets a mix of

red leaf lettuce
romain lettuce
carrots
1 large apple skin
some cuddlebone scraping for calcium
half a can of tuna in water
and then i sprinkle her 2 different turtle pellets on top.
