Feeding and Nutrition :: Easting Algae?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Lately, Brixie has been eating Algae that has been growing on the basking area of her tank. Is it harmful for her to eat it? I figured that it was ok since I really doubted it would make her sick or anything. While were at it, is algae bad for the tank in general?

Algae is fine in the tank and eating a little algae is not harmful. However, if it's on the surface of the dock or silicone and your turtle is biting and eating that, then I would remove the algae.

Thanks! And while I'm at it, instead of makin another topic, how long does water have to sit for chlorine to evaporate again? 72 hours?

My RES sometimes will eat green algae. It's never done him any harm. I think some algae in the tank (on objects) gives it a more naturalistic look. :D

Tap water needs to set for at least 24 hours for chlorine to evaporate.

It's 24 hours with the cap off (if the container is a capped one).
