ok, i have a baby RES about the size of a toonie, i fed him one cricket like 10 minutes ago, i am going to the pet store tommorrow and am going to pick up some new stuff. i am thinking about crickets, bloodworms, and mealworms and guppies as staples, thne some pellets when he gets older.
would that be good food or will it be to much protein etc etc.
thanks!
also, should i dust the food? and he is just a hatchling so he isnt taking pellets, and how should i dust the stuff?

I would say to try and get your Slider on the pellets as much as possible, in fact, they should be the staple food. If you read the stickies on this board about what to and what to not feed your Slider... you'll see that especially the worms should only be a once a week food, at the most as they are very high in protein... and you should try to feed them veggies even if they refuse.

It should be the other way around. The pellets should be the staple of the diet and the worms, crickets etc as treats and supplements. The "live" foods offer little other than protein and too much protein isn't good for a turtles growth. The pellets have other supplements including calcium which a turtle must have. You can offer veggies as SlidersRCool recommended but hatchlings are mostly carnivorous. I also recommend reading through the forum and the main website for informaion on how to feed and care for your turtle.

For hatchling pellets, consider getting Reptomin Baby.

I use this for my two babies, and they eat it as soon as they can swim over to it when I put it in the tank.
