Well i bought two more of the serpae tetras and they are doing fine. all of the fish are still there. i also added two snails into the tank and soo far soo good. these fish are great. Next up should be electric yellow cichlids but im not posotive yet. I am perfectly aware that these may someday be turtle food but any fish that can last over a month deserves a try. When i had rosies and guppies thay might have lasted two weeks with raphaiel. all of these fish are still here and no bute marks or bitten fins. I would recomend these fish. Thanks for all of your input. I greatly appreciate it but i am forced to reccomend these fish to anyone who wants them.

guppies are a type of feeders at my pet store, but since we were starting a breeding colony, we went ahead and bought a couple fancy adults (1 male + 2 females). The fancies seemed a bit healthier.

ive successfully kept my oscar with my res for over a year now, even though they are both pretty aggressive towards each other. my Oscar is about 3 inches bigger than my turtle.

It's been a couple of days and though my RES has chased him a bit, he's still surviving. They're pretty small (2-3 inches) and blend in really well with his environment, and at $1-2/fish, it's not a big investment.

Update: Nope, he caught him, not quite sure when because sometimes it's hard for me to find my otto in my non-turt tank, but he's definitely gone.

You might try a common pleco Watson, get rid of it when it gets bigger than the turtle but I've watched mine get bitten right on the face and swim away like it was nothing. After a couple tries the turtle will give up on him

I bought 12 Zebra D.'s as feeders and to give my turtles something to watch/play with... about a month ago. All 12 are still there. When my turtles catch an earthworm/night crawler, the fish take pieces of it right from my turtles' mouths. My turtles are ~4 1/2" long.
Maybe they will chase the fish when they get older?
Take care,
V Lou

I have:
2 kitties
lots of plants
1 female RES, Itai, 1 female Western Painted, Daisey. They have lots of colorful pet fish and about 770 gal water.

It seems to me that fish are the most in danger right when you drop them in but thats just my opinion from what I've seen. When I get a new cichlid, even if it looks exactly like one I already have, my turtle chases and chases it alone for 20 to 30 minutes then gives up and goes back to whatever he was doing before. Occasionally a fish will swim to close or not be paying attention and the turtle will grab it but mostly the turtles just don't pay attention to them. Now, I have turned the lights off at night, then got up for one reason for another after a couple hours of dark and switched the lights back on and all the turtles go into a chasing and feeding frenzy, chasing everything they see, but still hardly ever get a fish.

I'm not sure, Cricket is much smaller than that and definitely loves to hunt.

I think it's the opposite, they are more carnivorous when they are younger. Once they get so old they lose all interest in meat and become almost complete vegetarians. Some turtles just have killer personalities I believe. I have 5 turtles, 2 sliders and 3 cooters and they all act different. Some don't chase anything and some chase everything that moves.

my boyfriend bought two tiny feeder fish for the turtles. He was so excited they were going to be eaten. Nothing happened the turtles went to one corner of the tank and the fish to another!!!! Its been six months and they get along very well it seems. They are always together. The fish even eating the pellets.

Ive had GREAT success with keeping fish with my turtles. I am actually going to go pick up over 30 fish today off craigslist for free. He said he has a 8 inch oscar and a bunch of 4-6 inch Cichlids. So im going to throw in half of them with the turtles and keep a few breeding pairs in some 10 gals or so. ive had great success with jack dempsy's in RES tanks tho. my turtles ignore him since hes so fast.

Let's see.. i have three 6" tinfoil barbs, 8 giant danio's, a 6" long pleco, zebra danio's, feeder guppies, and bala sharks. this is in a 150 gallon tank. In my 75 where i used to have my turtle i had all kinds of tetra's, angelfish (which i wouldn't recommend with turtles), and pleco's. I even had them in a 20 gallon with fish when they were little. I've also kept crayfish with the turtles too.

When i put the fish in, i just float them in the bag, i don't drop them in like food. Because then.... they are food. The turtle's have never eaten a fish of mine, except when i force fed them feeder guppies once....
