I saw a RES at the pet store that had bright yellow around the the rim and bottom of its shell. I was wondering if there is anything I could feed my RES to bring out the yellow more in her shell or if they are just born with certain coloring?

Their shell coloring is mostly genetic, and varies very much by the individual. However, a healthy shell will always be more attractive. The best thing you can do is provide the right environment and diet for a healthy shell, and nature will do the rest =)

Thanks Spike, I figured genetics played a huge role. I was curious because a few of the other turtles (at the pet store) looked like their life had been hard and their shells were very dark. My turtle is happy and healthy so I'm excited to see what her shell will do as she grows :o)
