Feeding and Nutrition :: My RES doesn't seem to eat anything

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Post Posted: Wed Aug 13, 2008 9:52 am   My RES doesn't seem to eat anything

I have just bought him about 3 days ago, and he hasn't eaten anything since then. Is he ill? What should I do?

+I checked the water temperature, it's just fine.
+I tried to feed him with lettuce, pellets and fish, but he didn't eat.
+He still swims and he doesn't seem to be tired at all.

I had a RES a time ago, Ninja usually ate his lettuce and rarely bread too. But this time the new Homer doesn't seem to eat, I'm really scared, and I seriously need your advise. If you can help, thank you so much.

Don't worry! He just needs some time to warm up to his new home. New turtles often aren't comfortable enough to start eating for a week or so. Here are some ideas that might get him eating sooner: http://www.redearslider.com/entice_eating.html
1 RES, Piper
1 YBS, Michelangelo
2 gerbils, Annie and Maple
2 tetras, Leonin and Perotin
2 longfin danios, Cloud and Flash
1 blue mystery snail

Mine took a week before he started eating, so don't worry.

I have lots of ideas! Trouble is, most of them suck!

My turtle was born wild so getting him to eat pellet food was a little tricky. I would marinade the pellets in tuna water. He still to this day cannot resist the flavor!!!!

daniel3507, he showed up on my backyard patio at 1" big. It was a cold winters day here in Florida and I saved him from certain death!

Thanks guys. I think there are "damages" happened to the lettuce, and some pellets are being disappeared too.

No, I didn't get him from the wild. I bought him at a local pet shop.
You tried your best, and you failed miserably.
The lesson is: Never try.
