So lately we've been getting a lot of fresh produce, which typically come with the leaves. I was wondering if any of them are okay to feed to the turtle. Things such as:

Radish leaves?
Carrot leaves and stems?
Cat grass? (Grown with no pesticides)

Don't know about the radish leaves or cat grass but I am pretty sure carrot tops are only good for compost. I had looked it up a while ago for human consumption because I hate to waste things and I think it is really inedible for anyone/any animal.

I'm also very interested to hear about cat grass. Both my kitties love the stuff, at least they love the stuff that I grow fresh, not so much the containers that you can buy with already growing grass. It would be great if I could also feed it to Spike.

I already to refer to him sometimes as our "3rd kitty" (which my son hates...lol) so this would just give me even more reason to do so!

Nexy hobby...gluing wiskers on a turtle....lol....just kidding...

Btw, for anyone that has cats, or if it turns out that it is good for turtles, you can get a free sample of Oat seeds here;

I have used wheat & barley because they are readily available, but the cats really love oat grass, on its own, or grown with the wheat & barley.

Both radish tops and carrot tops are good for turts - My guys have gotten both this year. When I thin the carrots, I leave out a skinny little carrot with the top for both turts. They seem to enjoy it (or at least they seem to enjoy destroying it :P)

Don't know about cat grass though...

Cat grass is barley, wheat, and oat grass. I mean, it's just grass, do turtles eat grass in the wild? My cat loves it, so I tend to have some around, and I grow it myself rather than buy those pre-grown ones in the pet stores. Hmm ...

So, after looking for calcium to phosphorus ratios:
Barley is okay, at 1:1
Wheat is bad, at 1:3
Oat is okay, at ~1:1

Though there are so many other incredible vitamins and minerals available through grass, I wonder if the ratios could be forgiven? Everything in moderation, I guess.
