Feeding and Nutrition :: How often to feed sweet potato?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

We recently found out that Crush likes sweet potato. It is the only vegetable that he will eat, he likes aquatic plants but he pretty much just shreds them.

So, how often can we feed it to him? We give him pieces the size of his head or half the size.

He gets five baby reptomin and veggies that he doesn't eat daily. Also he gets a aquatic turtle veggie cube once a week. Once a month he gets a ghost shrimp and a few times a month aquatic plant bunches.

Also he HATES carrots.

I think most other members boil or microwave the sweet potato before feeding it to them. I don't know how much though.

I usually do thin strips with the peeler, and nuke it for a minute or two. I don't feed it more often than once a week.

I don't feed it more than once a week. Sometimes I go six weeks between sweet potatoes. then I buy one and Spot gets little pieces of it every week for about a month - till sweet potato goes bad.

We got the small microwave kind. He thinks it is the best thing since ghost shrimp!

Like pellet sized pieces or smaller? He's 2" and his head fits five baby reptomin. Also would it replace pellets for the day?

I steam it lightly to soften it and cut/cube several pieces a bit smaller than the head so they can be bitten and broken into smaller pieces. For my adult RES, I don't give pellets, for smaller turtles, I usually give fewer than normal.

I reccomend it once or a month. I find it too thick and stick to the throat. Its bad for me to eat cause sticky/ mushy foods make my voice bad.
