Feeding and Nutrition :: Turtle won't eat all of a sudden

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Hi guys. We had Scully for about 1.5 years now. He's been happy and healthy and even more energetic recently. In the last 48 hours he has no energy and has NO interest in eating. He isn't moving around very much, but he appears very aware of everything around him. He just appears lethargic and has NO interest in food.

This morning I did place some pellets in front of his face, and he nibbled, but tonight - no dice.

I decided to watch him a little without him knowing, and the only thing I see him doing that is strange is wiping his left eye over and over again with his foot. Same eye, same foot. I looked at the eye, and it appears SLIGHTLY irritated, but it could very well because he was scratching it. I decided to take a few pics to see what you guys think. It's obviously nothing big, but the little guy won't eat, and we are a little worried about him. He's normally RAVENOUS, and we have to keep ourselves from overfeeding him.

How critical is pH in water? I ask because since we've had him, we've never checked the pH - just kept his tank clean, provided lighting, kept it the right temp, etc. I just realize as I'm typing this that this is something that we've never done, but nothing has changed about his care, and he's been fantastic up until now.

That said, any thoughts on the lethargy, appetite, and eye issue (maybe nothing at all with the eye). I know you guys like to know specifics - please let me know what I can provide if this doesn't work.

His eyes look OK to me........Last year at about this time, Gomie suddenly "shut down" on me. Ate very little or not at all, lethargic, just couldn't be bothered. I took her to the Vet and he said she was fine, just had SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).
Here's the thread:

Now this may (or may not be) whats wrong with your turtle. Try tempting him with some tuna or krill or other smelly treat. Bump the tank temp up to about 80F and keep the tank away from drafts and give him a few more days to see if he comes around. It took Gomie weeks to start eating again after I took her to the Vet.
If you notice eye swelling, open mouth breathing, constant basking or not basking at all, you may have to take him to the Vet.
