Feeding and Nutrition :: Cilantro

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Since cilantro is something we always have around the house, I figured I'd check out the nutrition info on it and maybe feed it to the turts for some variety. Turns out cilantro has a slightly better calcium:phosphorous ratio than even green or red leaf lettuce (at least according to this website.

So I tried them out on the turts. Ralph totally snarfed his, and even Frankie, who usually eats the veg as a last resort, ate a leaf and a bit!

Anyone who isn't having a lot of luck with feeding green or red leaf lettuce, try cilantro if you have some. You never know, it could be your turt just wants something with a little more flavour to it!

good call on the cilantro. i'll have to give it a try. Hurley eats his greens but he is like your Frankie, eats it only as a last resort.

Thanks, BullDog! I will give it a try. Cilantro is something that is always available here. I tried some fresh basil, and I think he ate some...either that, or he took bites and spit it back out...but at least he tried it.

BullDog, I thought I would let you know that I put in some cilantro and some romaine this morning...Fred went insane over the cilantro! He is now eating the romaine as a last resort. We now have two veggies that he will eat! Thanks again for the suggestion!

I have Madagscar Hissing cockroaches and they eat cilantro like there is no tomorrow! Must taste good to animals too!! I will try it with Harley and see if she likes it.
