Feeding and Nutrition :: Fish feeders

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Hi! As I've posted before I have 3 babies, in a 75 gallon tank. They have quite a few rosie red minnows and a few guppies in there with them, as well as 3 snails. I was wondering if it would be ok to put a 7 day fish feeder pellet (top fin, pretty large) in the tank with them for the fish & snails to eat, or would that be bad for them? My turtles seem to love chasing the fish but never catch any, so I don't want to be mean to the fish and starve them! Thanks for any input!

Avoid those feeding blocks like the plague! If you have to, get a battery operated automatic fish feeder that dispenses flake or pellet food at set times.

hm my turtle sucks at catching fish, he has but he got lazy and has been keeping the last few around.

if u have live plants, i dont think u will have to feed them, i never feed mine and somehow they are alive and fat, also i had feed my turtle and the biggest guppy has started to eat from my hand too

i had a pleco in with my turtle for a little while, and i tried giving him algae wafers but my turt would steal them lol

so my point is: if u have live plants i dont think it will be an issue, and if u dont, just let the stave and then ur turtles will finally be able to catch them :)

If you feed your turtles anything in the tank(Pellets, veggies, etc. etc.) then the fish will eat the leftovers, and they also eat turtle poo. :?

My feeders have always survived w/o me feeding them anything. The turtle leaves leftover food & waste that keep the fish thriving.

The fish don't need a lot of food in order to survive. I put a guppy in my big turtle tank with my adult RES & turtle basically ignored guppy for months & months. Every time I went over there to check, the guppy was still in there swimming around happily & he grew during that time (!). I don't know what he ate, but I assume he found a few small things in there to eat (algae or some plant matter).

If you think about it, guppies in the wild don't get fed daily & they still manage to survive just fine too. Their stomachs are small so they don't need to eat much anyway.

Ya I never feed my minnows, and I dont have live plants in my tank. I think they eat algae, leftover turtle food, Iv'e even seen them nipping at my turtle shedding skin which is kinda funny. They all looked very healthy and if they last long Iv'e noticed growth. So if they wernt receving any nutrtion then they woulnt be growing and looking plump and healthy. I really wouldnt worry about them.
