Feeding and Nutrition :: Going on vacation

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Post Posted: Tue Jul 10, 2007 1:46 pm   Going on vacation

I'm going on vacation this coming Sat - Sat.

I have two baby RES and am wondering on a strategy to keep them well fed in my absence.

First, I don't exactly have someone to come over and keep them fed.

I plan on coming back mid week to check up on them; but what can I do in the mean time?

I was thinking about getting a couple aquatic plants - a lilipad etc. Will this tide them over for a few days? What else should I consider?

Many thanks in advance.

I'm in the same situation...you can get some feederfish and some aquatic plants like anacharis or you can get an automatic feeder...

You can get a timer for the lights as well.

So I put two bundles of anachris (SP?) and about a dozen and a half guppies into my tank. I'm hoping this tides them over from tomorow through Wed.

BTW - Statler and Waldorf are in HEAVEN chasing the guppies around and being able to hide in the plants.

Unfortunately I do not. I will come home midweek on Wednesday to check up on them.

I'm going to be facing the same problem in a few weeks. I'm thinking about buying one of those automatic food dispensers and seeing how well they'd work with turtle food.

There are quite a few auto dispensers that can take pellets. Just check on the box to make sure. Eheime makes a really good one I hear. I am headed on vacation my self in a month so.. shopping for the auto dispenser too.

I didn't know they made automatic food dispensers for fish/turtles! We are going on a vacation, too, and I was just figuring out who could stay or come over to feed Lil F.

Thanks, WyredHardware, for the Eheim suggestion. A quick search pulled up other manufacturers: Current AquaChef Auto Feeder, Lifegard Automatic Fish Feeder, and Hydor. If anyone has suggestions as to which ones work best, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

There was a discussion about this that I saw earlier I think. And someone had said that they really liked a certain brand and that it didn't jam with turtle pellets.
Here is the link for it:

hope that helps.
