Habitat - Outdoor :: hibernation and anasthetics

Ponds and other outdoor enclosures.

What is the relationship between hibernation and anasthetics? How similar are the effects of hibernating and being placed under anasthetics, for example with Nitrous Oxide or any of the standard surgical anasthetics. Can hibernation provide insights into anasthetics or vice versa? These both seem to be sleep-like states -- how are the related or possibly connected? Are there chemical similarities at the cellular level, or in brain psysiology?

There are different types of dormancy for reptiles and brumation is brought on by environmental conditions. Anesthesia blocks or reduce nerve impulses to the brain to creates a loss of sensation. It's a complicated question and would probably need to be rephrased for a more informative answer.
